Mental Health and Wellbeing
Promoting positive mental health
At Bickleigh Down Church of England Primary School, we believe in promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing to ensure that the school is a community where everyone is able to thrive. Our school's vision of spurring each other on with love and our values of love, hope, aspiration, forgiveness and spirit underpin everything we do.
Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment
Our school is dedicated to providing a safe space where every individual feels valued and respected. We encourage open communication and foster an atmosphere of kindness, understanding, and inclusion. Students are taught the importance of empathy and respect through dedicated sessions and everyday interactions.
Mental Health Education
We integrate mental health education into our curriculum to help students understand their feelings and learn strategies to manage them. By teaching self-awareness, resilience, and positive coping strategies, we empower students to take charge of their emotional health. Mental health topics are covered in PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education and reinforced through assemblies and class discussions.
Resources for Families
We understand that family support is essential for a child’s well-being. Our school provides resources, workshops, and information sessions for parents and carers to help them support their child’s mental health at home. We also offer guidance on how to connect with local mental health services if further assistance is needed.
Building Resilience and Emotional Skills
Building resilience is an important part of our approach. We teach students how to handle challenges, cope with setbacks, and develop positive problem-solving skills. By fostering resilience, we prepare them for future challenges and help them build confidence in their abilities.
